Revolutionizing Dry Bulk Shipping with Technology

Are You Sure?! The question that led to Crab.

In a world where technological advancements have transformed various industries, it is astonishing to witness the dry bulk shipping industry being a laggard, with limited technology, platforms and tools being deployed by various stakeholders. This leaves charterers stranded, searching for ships to transport their cargo at competitive costs, resulting in lost deals, lost profits and wasted time. Charterers are never sure they have the best freight in the market. However, the era of limited choices is about to change with the introduction of Crab, a revolutionary, independent, global marketplace connecting charterers, brokers, and vessel owners.

Are You Sure you have found the best vessel with the best freight?

We built Crab in order to help you answer this question with an emphatic “Yes!”

Let us explore how Crab is set to reshape the dry bulk shipping landscape.

How we started - The Tale of an Unfortunate Exporter

last year, I faced a distressing situation. I urgently needed to ship my dry bulk cargo, but due to the impact of Covid-19 on the shipping industry, finding a suitable vessel became an arduous task. Eventually, I resorted to paying an exorbitant amount to secure whatever ship my broker could find, leading to significant financial losses and a multi-month recovery period. It made me question, "Why is it so difficult to find a dry bulk vessel? Aren't there thousands out there? Why can't we access the best options at reasonable prices without the risk of extortion?"

The Reality of the Dry Bulk Shipping Industry

The dry bulk shipping industry's inadequacies became clear - lack of transparency and data on dry bulk vessel availabilities, limited technology platforms and lack efficient communication channels hindered the process of finding the perfect ship. It became evident that a transformation was long overdue. Hence, Crab was born, aiming to revolutionize the way charterers find vessels for their dry bulk cargoes.

Introducing Crab - The Dry Bulk Shipping Marketplace

Crab is an innovative marketplace designed to bridge the gap between charterers, brokers, and vessel owners/ operators. Our primary goal is to provide multiple freight offers when charterers need a dry bulk vessel, ensuring they can discover and choose the best available option. Similarly, if vessel owners have available vessels, they can explore a plethora of cargo options suitable for their ship's location and capacity. With Crab, discovering the best available freight for your dry bulk cargo is no longer a challenge.

Crab is for Brokers, as much as it is for Charterers & Vessel Owners

Since dry bulk freight values are significant, it is imperative that the charterer is trusted as much as the vessel owner/ operator. And that is where ship brokers play an indispensable role. They add the most critical element of "trust" to every deal and help charterers find the best vessel reliably through their trusted owners.

Brokers in fact bring demand, and supply. And Crab can enable brokers get access to more cargo, close deals faster and grow their business!

Brokers can post their cargoes on Crab, and perhaps find the best available freight and ensuring they never miss a deal due to a bad freight number given to their customer! While also quoting for other cargoes listed on Crab.

While most digital freight platforms want to circumvent brokers or become a broker itself, Crab embraces, respects and invites brokers as they are the most important link in dry bulk shipping!

Embracing Sustainability

As we strive to reshape the industry, we also have a mission to contribute to a greener future. Crab recognizes the tremendous potential in avoiding empty and unprofitable backhauls. We envision a world where owners can find additional cargoes for their backhaul, minimizing ballast time and wasted trips, while maximizing efficiency. Charterers, in turn, can utilize these backhauls, benefiting from reduced costs and lower emissions. In effect, Crab can reduce the carbon intensity (carbon emissions per ton of cargo) for the entire dry bulk shipping industry, making a positive impact on the environment while ensuring economic prosperity.

The Journey Begins

While this vision may seem too good to be true, we assure you that the limitations faced in dry bulk shipping are real. However, we firmly believe that by moving the industry forward and embracing modern technology, substantial improvements can be achieved for all stakeholders.
